Houthis urge mediation to stop strikes
Thu, 12 Nov 2009 17:54:36 GMT
A spokesman for Yemeni fighters called for mediation of any third party to find a solution to end the current fighting between Houthi fighters and Yemeni government.
Yahya Badr Eddin al-Houthi also called on Saudi Arabia to end its attacks and stressed that the Houthi fighters has no foreign backing.
He also rejected accusations of neighboring countries' help, saying the Houthis had "no links with any foreign political agenda".
The spokesman added the war the group was waging was only for self-defense against the Yemeni government as well as Saudi fighters' aggressions.
Earlier, the fighters said Saudi jets had bombed several villages on the Yemeni side of the border, killing dozens of people including women and children.
They also said they had taken control of more territory from the Yemeni army elsewhere in the northern province of Saada.
They also accuse Saudi Arabia of supporting the Yemeni armed forces by allowing them to launch attacks from its territory.
On Monday evening, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, a field commander, said we affirm that whoever tries to add a sectarian dimension to our position is a liar and tries to sow sedition.
